Echoes from the Battle Front

30,October 2009
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32

Please thank God for…
 Keeping us in good health.
 Enabling us to start Half night prayers from this month.
 Reviving our teen’s club.

Please pray for …
 4 people (names withheld) who show some interest.
 A man who has lost sensation of his upper and lower limbs because of spinal problem, to be healed.
 Our regular programs-Sunday worships, teen’s club, Sunday school, ladies meeting, good news clubs, Thursday fellowship, fasting prayers etc.
 The children who attended the retreat last month will grow in the Lord.

Our dear praying partners,
Loving greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is a pleasure to contact you all once again through this newsletter. At last, the rains are over here. In Andaman at least for one week now, we are enjoying good sunshine. Like the unpredictable weather, the spirituality of our believers and children here is also full of ups and downs. Knowing that the time is short, our adversary is working very hard to pull us down. But God is encouraging us with his promise – ‘Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.' Luke 12:32

In Aug.09 we had a youth retreat; 23 youth attended. Most of them sincerely made up their minds to follow Christ. In the long run they are not able to live up to the mark. We need to have frequent special programs and newer strategies to bring them back. Please pray.

Our field was blessed to have God’s servants visiting us in the last 3 months.
  • In August, a 9 member team from YWAM visited us and conducted meaningful worship and open air meetings in our Church premises.
  • During September, Rt.Rev.J.J.Christudoss and his wife from CSI Diocese, Tirunelveli along with 12 Presbyters from Central Church Council visited us and encouraged us. They imparted on us a vision that one day this ‘little dough’- the believers in Kadamtala will grow up in to a big congregation with all the people of Andaman worshiping Christ.
  • In mid-September another team from UESI-TN visited us. The Lord used them along with our youth Masidas in starting an EU prayer cell in Mayabunder College.
[Our son] is back in his hostel after spending his Quarterly holidays with his grand- parents. [Both of our sons] and us were down with viral fever in October. By God’s grace we have good health now. [Paul] Newton had his back pain again and is avoiding long travels now. Please continue to pray for us. We pray for you.

Yours in His mission

Earthquake

On 8/11/09, Paul wrote:

"Dear brother i am typing this from my cell phone. We are safe. The tremor was strong and the duration longer. We were sleeping sound.

Around 1.30am local time, we were woken up by the earth quake, took our son and went out. The rattling of the roof was horrible. Very few things fell down. Again we went in and slept. Early morning we came to another place. We will in back only after 2 days."

We are thankful for safety and new opportunities to help with Jesus' hands and feet in their community.

Amplifier/Speaker, Laptop Needs

Greetings to you in the mighty name of our Living Lord Jesus.

Thank you very much for your letters which really encourage us. We often wonder how God has made you an instrument of joy even though we live in far away places and different conditions. Our God is God of far and near.

We have been praying quite a long time for certain equipments for our ministry. Now we are sure that this is God's will. So we have decided to inform our prayer partners to consider this.

As we have informed in our Newsletter, Screening films, Graphics and other Visual aids are very useful in Andamans where most of the people are illiterates or not interested in reading. So far we have been using Campus Crusade brothers for showing Jesus Film once in a year. Now we think that we should show other Gospel films also to evangelize effectively. We also like to use Power Points and Pictures.

To do these, we need an LCD Projector, a Speaker and a Laptop.

(July 2009 update: an LCD projector was provided, leaving speaker/amplifier and laptop needs.)

It is a costly budget. A stranger (Speaker with inbuilt amplifier) of Ahuja brand is 11, 500.00 Rupees ($230). A Laptop with reasonable configuration is available between 30,000.00 and 50,000.00 ($600 - $1,000).

May I request you to consider these needs if God leads? We hope that God will provide this since this is for His glory and His will. Please pray for this. We will be happy if anybody comes forward to offer used LCD Projector and Laptop.

Thank you.

Yours in His Mission,
Paul & Chella Newton

Home, Sweet Home

The Newtons' refurbished home was finished last year, providing the family much more protection during the monsoon season. Global NIM assisted financially with the roof. Before (on left) and after (on right):

Echoes from the Battle Front

Jan– March 2009 Newsletter
Our very dear praying partners,
Loving greetings in the precious name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

By God’s grace we are all doing well. Our son Johan in Santho-sha Vidhyalaya is also keeping fine. The believers of Kadamtala and Foster Valley Church are also doing well. How soon we have come to the third month of the new year!

We pray that the following months will be a blessed one to all of you as we are very much blessed through your prayers and support.

Dry Season Outreach
January through March are the real dry months in Andamans. But it gives us great opportunity to reach out into new territories to sow the seeds. By God’s grace we conducted Believer’s retreat in Foster Valley, Open air meetings in Foster Valley and Baktha Road Corner, screened Jesus Film in Shaktigarh , Shantipur Baktha Road corner & No: 3 and conducted health teaching program in Forest Dera & Foster Valley.

Divine Protection
This month we have experienced the power of your prayers more than ever. God protected us from 2 bike accidents. On 2nd Feb I was dressing up Jeremy after his bath. When I put my hand into his shelf [a cane almirah] my hand caught hold of something which I felt like a smooth, round and soft strap of a leather handbag. Quickly guessing what it could be I withdrew my hand. My husband was 20 kms away. So I left the place undisturbed till he came. He returned after 2 hours. All
these while I was wondering living in the jungle for four long years has not reduced my Herpetophobia, [fear of reptiles] a bit. We carefully removed the clothes from the shelf one by one and there the ‘andha saap’ [a poisonous snake] was patiently waiting to be killed. I was reassured of God’s promise: they will pick up serpents with their hands… it will not hurt them Mark 16:18 -Chella E. Newton

We had a follow up youth retreat on 31st Jan 2009 in our house at Phooltala. 10 youths attended and decided to study the scriptures systematically.

As I was meditating on Genesis 26 one morning I was very much encouraged to learn that though Isaac had sown seeds during famine, God blessed him with 100 fold result the same year. Sometimes we feel Andaman as a hard and dry soil. It’s our prayer that we find 100 fold results in 2009. Please pray.

Leadership Training

Dear brother,

Recently one of our leaders visited us and we had a leadership training program for new believer's from all our IEM Andaman Mission Station. It was a good begining... a great time of encouragement and learning. He brought a friend with him from New Tribes Mission and he taught us to teach new believers.

Please pray that we will be able to produce Dynamic local leaders.

In His love,
Newton and Chella

A new roof is arriving

Earlier this spring we reported that Paul and Chella Newton's hut's metal roof was being assembled right over the existing hut (photo below). The old roof leaked and leaked and leaked.

Today Paul wrote, "We are very busy with repairing the house. As you know, already we have finished the roof. As some of my relatives helped, now we are raising the side walls with Cement and Hallow blocks. We have just received the bills. I will send it to you soon. Since I don’t have a digital camera, I am unable to send a photo. I will try to send."
